Myriam Laplante [Italy]
'Everything is going according to plan'

performance
18.00 Saturday 1st November 2003
installation exhibition [view by appointment]
2nd - 23rd November 2003

All over the planet, powerful nations are trying to rule the world and smaller powers are trying to stay autonomous. Other rulers just try to get all they can while it lasts. All this is done « for the good of humanity ». The more they mess up, the more they say it was all planned this way. The performance acts as a parody of secret military research laboratories that exist all over the planet. There will be cages with rabbits, monkeys, mice, working alembics, and chemicals to produce bacteriological weapons, mounds of earth with little plants.

Born in Bengladesh in 1954, Laplante grew up in Quebec and is now based in Rome. Her work has been exhibited throughout Europe and North America.

'..the work of Myriam Laplante has false bottom moods. On the surface, her tales of common folly, with grotesqueness, combining cynicism with mockery, the works are crude, biting and solemn. A curious and humble lesson about the human zoo that is the world, they are surprising in their material and dramatic outrageousness, and tip art in the direction of the theatre of life.'
-Louise Dery, Othe Parody of The Worlds According To Myriam Laplante
