I am not a performance artist. I have been performing since mid-seventies and participating in worldwide Œperformance art movement¹, in particular since the late eighties, that is since we regained (or perhaps were given) the right of unrestricted traveling. However, the core of my work is situated outside the category of performance, whatever your concept of it is.

Performance is one of many, but often the central strategy of my work. A number of reasons contribute to it, the major ones being of a political, social and economic nature. I perform to maintain my independence from what I do not like circumstances, offices and establishment; to keep the distance; to have an alternativeŠ

Based in Krakow, Poland, Artur Tajber has created performance since the nineteen seventies. A teacher at the Art School in Krakow he is also director of the Fort Sztuki arts organisation, curator of numerous exhbitions at Bunker Sztuki and organiser of numerousautonimous projects. He has presented, exhibited and produced work worldwide.
